Dr. Martindale was born and raised in Ireland.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry at Trinity College, Dublin, she emigrated to Canada and obtained her Ph.D in Biochemistry at the University of Calgary. She then worked with Connaught Laboratories, Toronto, on the problem of keeping insulin flowing in pumps. She is still very interested in diabetes and its effects on the body, but particularly on the eyes.
She met her husband in Toronto. She commuted between his new workplace, Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and Toronto. Their first born son is an American. They then moved to Montreal (McGill University) and their second son was born there just before Dr. Martindale started Optometry at the Universite de Montreal. As a result of her time in Montreal, she now speaks French.
They moved to Victoria in 1992 and she has been an optometrist in the downtown area ever since.
Both she and her husband are avid cyclists and often combine cycling and travel. Dr. Martindale recently discovered pickleball and likes it so much she can be found at the gym before 7 am.
She is the author or coauthor of several scientific papers, including a chapter in “ The Origin and Evolution of Sex”. This is not nearly as exciting as it sounds as it is sex in unicellular organisms.
Dr. Dhillon was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Dr. Dhillon pursued a Sciences degree at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Dhillon stays up to date with the most current advancements in Optometry so that she is best able to serve her patients. Her interests lie primarily in ocular disease and vision therapy.
